Today is International Women’s Day, and we would like you all to join Girl Up in celebrating the history of this day.   International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This day has been observed since the early 1900s as the growth of the industrialized world saw the rise of radical ideologies.  March 8th was officially recognized as IWD in 1914. In 2011, President Obama officially declared March to be women’s history month.  In the present day, IWD is becoming a more powerful movement and is being celebrated as a more important day. We have made great improvements in women’s rights, but still more has to be done.  Happy International Women’s Day from Girl Up!
